Web 2.0 List Project Intro
I’d like to start my journey by introducing more details about yesterday’s project - this website/blog, myweb20list.com
I spent 15 hours, pretty much straight, from 4:00 AM until noon, 12:30 till 5:00 and 5:30-7:30. Ok, it was about 17 hours.
Briefly (for the techy in you) here’s what I did:
Collected and organized the Categorized List of well over 200 Web 2.0 URLS, set up the email subscriber form, found a very nice CSS based template, included LastRSS to pull from this blog, added a nice PHP randomizer script, included the AddtoBookmarks script, google analytics and researched and installed the handy thumbshots.org script. With a few more adjustments, I generated the 390 pages of the directory website (16 different times to get the major bugs out). Then I installed the latest wordpress blog, set up the template and widgets, etc, entered categories to match the database and completed various other tidy-up activities.
Last night at 7:30, just before I hit the sauna - the site was ready enough for launch, that I was ready to start the experiment.
I did a search for my keyword phrase - gosh - there are 22 million sites competing!
Alright then… So I did a search for my keyword phrase in quotes… OK - I’m still nowhere, of course, because there are no links to my new site yet… I dreamed the domain name last night and just purchased it that morning, set up the hosting on my dedicated server and went to the races!
Before I went to the sauna, I posted about a 200 word article to www.scribd.com - and I went for a sauna.
WHEN I returned one hour later - I refreshed the search page - and there I was! Number One in Google. - for my search, in quotes. It’s a nice, fast beginning to a brand new project and domain that is not yet 20 hours old!!
Next post - the begining. I will now spend my quite holiday hours registering and reviewing various Web 2.0 Sites that match my personal goals. There will be many sites that I won’t take the time to review - and I need your help.
